Hotel Reviews - Mercure George Hotel, Reading

Poor Experience With Safety Concerns.
Despite two reminders, room was not cleaned during a two night stay.

I noted that inspection dates for electrical equipment safety (both television and hair dryer) had expired three months previously - important in an old building with much structural wood.

Reading is the county town of Royal Berkshire, situated in beautiful countryside in the heart of the Thames Valley, with the Rivers Kennet and Thames running through the town. Approximately half way between London and Oxford, Reading is a vibrant University town, with an interesting history and plenty of modern facilities. Of architectural interest are its ruined Abbey, three medieval Churches, Georgian buildings in London Street, a gothic Town Hall, splendid old coaching inns, new hi-tech offices and shopping centres.

Reading (formerly Reading General) is a railway station in the large town of Reading in south central England. It is situated on the northern edge of the town centre, some 5 minutes' walk from the main retail and commercial areas, and close to the River Thames. Adjacent to the railway station is a bus interchange, served by most of Reading's urban and rural bus services. Reading is a major junction point on the National Rail system, and as a consequence the railway station is a major transfer point as well as serving heavy originating and terminating traffic. The main rail route served by the station is the Great Western Main Line, which runs west from London's Paddington station before splitting to the west of Reading station into two lines, one serving the West Country, and the other Bristol, Bath and South Wales.

The stadium is of a fair size and is totally enclosed, with all four corners being occupied. Three sides are single tiered, whilst on one side the West Stand is two tiered, including a row of executive boxes. The ground has been designed with the supporter in mind as the supporters are very close to the pitch and the acoustics are good. The stadium also now has a recently installed video screen on the South East corner. The Madejski is e asily one of the best stadiums in the Championship Division and wouldn't look out of place in the Premier League. The stadium, named after Reading's multi millionaire chairman, is shared with London Irish Rugby Club and was recently voted as having the best facilities for disabled supporters in the League.
